URBANITE THEATRE WORKING STANDARDS

At Urbanite Theatre, we frequently produce works that demand intimate and vulnerable scene work, emotionally challenging material, and charged social and political discussion. It is our intention to create both a safe and brave environment for healthy risks and creative discoveries.

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION POLICY

Urbanite Theatre strongly believes that an effective workforce includes employees from different and diverse backgrounds and experiences that together form a more creative, innovative, and productive environment.

Urbanite Theatre recognizes that building an equitable, diverse, and inclusive environment is the key ingredient to its relevance and sustainability in the community. Urbanite Theatre respects diversity within human qualities and these qualities include but are not limited to: ethnicity, race, color, country of origin, sex, gender, age, sexual orientation, marital status, religion, beliefs, political affiliations, socioeconomic status, experiences and any form of disability.

Urbanite Theatre strives to create a culture of inclusion where employees of diverse human qualities can thrive and succeed and are able to participate in and contribute to, the progress and success of the theatre while growing both professionally and personally.

GUEST ARTIST TESTIMONIALS

"Before, during, and after my time as a guest artist with Urbanite, I was truly impressed with their communication and responsiveness. When I was a guest artist at Urbanite I felt I had an ideal experience in the rehearsal process and through performances. The rehearsal room was a safe zone to play, analyze, and question. I was comfortable taking risks in that atmosphere."

"As a visiting artist at Urbanite, you can expect to be taken into a mini artistic family. The rehearsal room was kept professional and supportive, but also free and fun with room to play around. Stage management went above and beyond when ensuring that all the important props and set pieces were available for us to work with in rehearsals when possible, and made sure to create a safe and inclusive environment. Once our show was up and running, everyone from Urbanite was constantly working to make sure we had everything we needed to have a great performance.

"The team at Urbanite is passionate, engaged, and cares deeply for their actors. I was treated with a great deal of respect and thanks at almost every turn. Coming from a big theatre city like Chicago--especially like Chicago--that is striving towards creating safer and more inclusive spaces, I was honestly skeptical about the standards I might see at a theatre elsewhere. But I was surprised by and impressed with Urbanite Theatre's commitment to safety and inclusivity. It is apparent this theatre is led by people who are awake to, and down with, the way our rehearsals and performances must be today for us all to be safe and succeed."
