2025 MODERN WORKS FESTIVAL

September 10-25, 2024

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

Back for the sixth year and taking place at Urbanite Theatre, the 2025 Modern Works Festival is a five-day playwriting and reading festival and a celebration of women in theatre.

Right now, a panel of play readers is reviewing submissions to select three playwrights to present staged readings of their works at the Festival. These full-length plays will feature quality, well-represented roles for women, and our three finalists will have the opportunity to refine their scripts and see how audiences respond.

The Modern Works Festival is an exciting step for many women on their journey of developing a play. We're proud that plays from past Festivals have gone on to receive their world premieres, including recent works WESTMINSTER by Brenda Withers and THE APIARY by Kate Douglas.

The Festival will culminate in an audience roundtable discussion, and Festival Passholders will have the opportunity to cast a vote for their favorite of the three works. We can't wait to share the lineup with you for this year's festival!
