DRY LAND

by Ruby Rae Spiegel

directed by Summer Dawn Wallace

Set in the girls’ locker room of a Florida high school, this portrait of an unlikely friendship follows Ester, a hopeful collegiate swimmer, and Amy, a girl in need of an ally. Traversing female sexuality, eating disorders, suicide, bullying, and the political landscape of reproductive rights in America, Dry Land is a brave portrayal of the contemporary American teenager and the impossible pressures that build up at the brink of adulthood.

“Spiegel captures the way these girls talk and interact with each other very naturally; you may feel you’re merely overhearing an unscripted conversation from time to time…And McCaw and Boyer, both barely out of high school themselves, deliver it wonderfully under the direction of Summer Dawn Wallace.”

“I did forget that I was watching a play…It was all too real and seemingly unscripted under the fine direction of Summer Dawn Wallace.”

-Sarasota Herald-Tribune (Full Review)

“What the audience sees isn’t a heavy-handed, one-issue play, but a multilayered slice of life in a subculture many would like to forget.”
